Sun, Sea, Toddlers and Pregnancy!
We went to Crete in May just gone with Grace and whilst 17 weeks pregnant and I thought I would share our experience with you!
We booked Jet2 Holidays as we have previously holidayed with them find them fantastic and easy, from check in at Stansted airport the whole holiday flowed nicely with 0 problems, The staff were friendly, Stansted is so easy to navigate and the security is stress free compared to others, We had a seat for Grace on the plane even though was still one years old on the way out purely for the space and to keep her happy, I was dreading the 4 hour flight after she played up something rotten back from Paris to Gatwick in March but she was an angel honestly and it was mainly thanks to these:
*portable dvd player & Mr tumble! (Justin we love you)
*crayons and a colouring book
*pjs and slippers for night flight and transport to hotel
*trunki - she loves riding it through the airport like a diva queen
*a toy shes never seen before this is the best advice anyone gave me and works a treat!
*blanket for when she fell asleep
*headphones, best ones were JVC toddler ones from Asda obviously we got pink ones with girly stickers she could put on them for £15
So the flight was fab! we even tried the new Nandos box is was delish and we ordered another for the transfer bus :D fattys we are! The pilots let Grace go inside to meet them and have a picture and the Cabin crew made such a fuss of her! We do love Jet2!!
The hotel was so nice! we stayed at the Gouves Park Resort only 20 minutes from the airport and in a little village with a small beach and few restaurants but perfect for young families and those who want to relax. The Resort check in was so fast and easy and we were upgraded from a standard room to a two bed family suite! A member of staff took our luggage and showed us to our suite and it was huge and very modern, Grace had a bedroom with 2 single beds, a travel cot, flat-screen TV and aircon whereas myself and Robert had a king-bed and a balcony that was large enough for a table of 6 and a sun lounger! Very impressed. The resort consisted of a few different room types and areas with 6/7 pools and a mini water park. The food was okay for all inclusive but the pizzeria and kebabs were incredible, there was also a little Chinese restaurant you could book a day in advance although we never got chance and a restaurant a 5 minute walk away on the beach called Smile offers Gouves Park guests a discount and has a great Greek night and indoor children's play area with bouncy castles, best part was the hotel offered free Tuc Tuc transport to the beach and restaurants :D
We did an excursion with a local tour operator to Elounda around 1 hour away from Gouves and got a boat to an island you may know from the book "the island" called Spinalonga which was great the views were incredible and the history of the island I wont spoil for you but very interesting! We then had a beach BBQ and a trip to Agios Nicolas a beautiful town in the East of Crete with the best Waffles and Ice cream :) The trip was 9 hours long but Grace was so well behaved the entire time and a real credit to us, I love showing her the world and she will always come on holidays and trips with us wherever we can ( although we do like our 2 night city breaks adult only once a year)
Grace was so good around the pool and sea this time, just a few months ago in Ibiza she barely wanted to go into the water and refused to wear armbands, this time she was jumping in and playing with daddy, kicking her legs and asking to wear her armbands so we were super proud. on our first day we took her to the shop to pick our her armbands and inflatable which is fun she chose a giant donut and minnie mouse armbands bless her such a girly girl. We got Rob and Grace matching swimwear from Matalan and they looked so adorable! Most of our holiday clothes were Matalan, Peacocks or Mini Club and we had so many compliments so if your going away soon definitely check these shops out for inspiration! lots of macthy matchy in Matalan!
So I only went and got heat stroke on day one! advice to any preggo mumma's our bodies can usually hand heat but do be careful, I had no idea how different i would react to the heat being pregnant, I was barely in the sun but overheating was real! after a day of bedrest I started drinking more water and less fizzy ( typical holiday drink is Fanta lemon but not this time) I alternated time in the sun and time in the shade and took Grace for naps in the room at the hottest parts of the day usually 1-3pm this helped heaps! and lots of dipping in and out the pool, I was surprised by how many pregnant mums were away and it was so refreshing to see, I got most of my swimwear from Matalan and maxi dresses or beach dresses and they fit perfectly around my little bump but I did see George Asda have some pretty maternity swimwear items I will be purchasing shortly for Rome and the summer heatwave when it ever arrives!
Soooo some of you may have seen Grace's holiday romance! it was adorable honestly she met a little lad called Aaron who was a total sweetheart and they were inseparable all week, we went to the pool together, dinner and mini disco most days/nights and the pair were always holding hands, kissing and sharing juice boxes :D It was sad to leave Grace still asks for Aaron and we will definitely be meeting up with the family again this summer in Chester and a trip to the zoo which we have only heard good things about! nice little post holiday catch up! We may even book to go away together next year who knows! but a lovely family who made ours very memorable!
So heres some of our most have items for a holiday pregnant of with a toddler!
-bright swimwear to see your littles in the water and spot them running off!
-factor 50 sun-cream with high UVA rating we used Aldi is very highly recommended and La Rochelle Possey for my Eczema prone Grace. ( independent Pharmacies often have samples to try before you buy as it is pricey but so worth it)
-new toys even if they are pound land
-snacks for the room and juices ( put in hold luggage)
-extension lead (only need one travel adaptor!)
-flight socks for preggy mums to help against DVT and swelling
So all in all another fantastic Jet Holiday - Can I just clear up those who think they are cheap, cheerful and chavvy - They really arent and actually feature some amazing luxury 5* resorts we are looking at one in Rhodes for next year part of the family Luxe collection and I know Jet2 are friendly, kind and always happy to help so they are my go to for our family holidays they also fly from my closest airport London Stansted. as for Gouves Park - Lovely 4* resort, modern, choice of dining, nice location and friendly staff, great evening entertainment ( better than Ibiza!) and the water slides were great fun!
Myself and Robert are off on our babymoon to Rome in a few weeks so we will keep you updated on all things pregnancy and City breaks soon! I hope this helped anyone looking to travel with a toddler or whilst pregnant, any questions please ask im more thsn happy to help, having worked for the airlines as cabin crew for over 7 years and working as a travel agent I know a few tricks of the trade :D
Take care, Much Love
